Maxim Mikhalev is a Russian anthropologist, writer, and traveler. His research interests include the trans-border areas of China and Russia as well as Central Asia and Tibet. A graduate of Minzu University of China, and D.Sc. from the Russian Academy of Sciences, he is currently affiliated with the State and Religion in Asia Research Center, Institute of China and Contemporary Asia, Russian Academy of Sciences. His publications include Outuo People: Bufferlanders and their Weltanschauung (Beijing, 2014).
